When my daughter was tiny, I vaguely remember dabbling in the art of infant massage, tenderly rubbing her back and little legs with lavender lotion before bedtime. She loved a good bubble bath and I’m pretty sure we attended a Mommy and Me yoga class here and there as well. In my new mom book, these activities basically counted as a mommy/baby spa day.
It turns out, I was wrong.
That’s mainly because the Amazing Baby Spa, Florida’s first destination baby spa located in North Miami Beach, didn’t exist yet. Catering to infants from 2 weeks to 8 months old, this spa features soft lighting, relaxing music and float tubs, which are special baths where babies float thanks to doughnut-shaped flotation devices (pictured above).
In addition to getting babies familiarized with water in preparation for swimming lessons, the float tubs provide infants with numerous health benefits including improved sleep patterns, regulated digestive systems, enhanced immune system functions, reduced stress hormones, increased circulation and refined muscular coordination. Who knew?
Following the 20- to 30-minute floating treatment, babies are then wrapped in a warm, hooded organic towel and dried gently, followed by a full body massage from mommy or daddy with organic grapeseed oil. Parents who take their babies to the spa are trained in the art of “infant massage” by a certified instructor, allowing them to continue the infant massage at home. See? I needed this five years ago!
While the Amazing Baby Spa allows little ones to enjoy the pampering, relaxation and health benefits of infant massage and hydrotherapy, mommies can also indulge! The spa offers acupuncture, yoga and specialty classes such as HypnoBirthing® for moms-to-be.
In addition to the drive down to Miami, your initial spa visit will set you back $125, which covers parent training, a waterproof travel bag that includes a reusable swim diaper and spa co-founder Trudie Jones’ instructional DVD “The Trifecta of Infant Massage.” After the first visit, the price drops to $85 for subsequent sessions. The spa also offers packages for a discounted price as well as gift cards.
You’d certainly win the prize for the most unique baby shower gift with a pass to the Amazing Baby Spa! Boca moms, take note!
